Shri Subhash Chandra, Chairman of Essel Group of companies, is an educationist, philanthropist & a parliamentarian (Member of Rajya Sabha). Rightly referred as ‘The Father of Indian Television’, Shri Chandra’s pioneering vision has gifted India, not just its first private satellite television company but an entire industry in itself. ZEE now caters to over 1.3 billion viewers from 173 countries in more than 19 languages.
As the Chairman of Ekal Global, which works for the under-privileged children, especially in the tribal areas, he has enabled 86,000 schools in 22 Indian states and in Nepal, educating over 2.3 Mn children and is working towards rural development in as many villages. Shri Chandra has been contributing towards society in association with various NGOs including TALEEM Foundation, Ekal Vidyalaya, Global Vipassana Foundation, Global Foundation for Civilisation Harmony and Subhash Chandra Foundation.
For his contributions to the industry, Shri Chandra has been awarded the 2011 International Emmy Directorate Award at their 39th International Emmy Awards in New York. He became the first Indian ever to receive a Directorate Award recognizing excellence in television programming outside the United States.
Mr. Punit Goenka, a young and dynamic professional with a strong entrepreneurial background, started his career with Essel Group, a vibrant conglomerate with diversified business interests in media & entertainment, infrastructure, and other leading sectors. Being the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited, Punit has been extremely successful in enhancing the company’s performance and in driving the company towards its set goals.
Under his leadership, ZEE has achieved scores of milestones and prestigious awards, elevating the brand to a global cadre. Dun & Bradstreet Corporate Award 2015, IMC Fusion Award 2013 for Excellence in Media, Businessworld Infocom ICT Award 2012 are some of the many such awards bagged by ZEEL during Punit’s tenure. His futuristic vision and sharp acumen in the new media domain, has led the company to a global stature today. Punit is also responsible for expanding the company’s international presence across 173 countries, and its reach to over 1.3 billion viewers.
Punit Goenka was honored with the Business Today ‘Best CEO Award’ in the Media and Entertainment category for 2016. He has also received MIPTV’s prestigious Médaille d’Honneur Award 2016, Economic Times ‘40 Under Forty’ India’s Hottest Business Leaders Award 2014, the ‘Young CEO Award’ by CEO India magazine in 2015 and the prestigious IAA Leadership Award 2014 under the category of ‘Media Person of the Year Award’. Punit has also been recognized as the ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ during the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards 2014. For his immense contribution to the media and entertainment industry, Punit was felicitated as the ‘IMPACT Person of the Year’ in 2014. Going forward, Punit envisions ZEE to be ranked amongst the top global media brands.
Mr. Amit Goenka, Chief Executive Officer, International Broadcast Business, is responsible of spearheading the International Business of the Company. Under his leadership, the Company is taking the right steps to achieve its global ambitions, set for the year 2020.
Prior to this role, Mr. Goenka has successfully managed the technology business of the Essel Group, and has played a vital role in the setting up the state-of-the-art processes in all the group companies.
Mr. Goenka’s first venture was Cyquator Technologies Ltd – a company which deals into web hosting and e-solutions space. His intense knack in identifying, evaluating & pursuing new business opportunities and developing market strategies was instrumental in the phenomenal success of ‘Playwin’ – India’s first online lottery, wherein he introduced the concept of MyPlaywin.com cards, enabling an online purchase of the lottery tickets. Furthermore his innovative ideas gave birth to India’s first pre-paid cash cards service – ITZ Cash Card – a unique payment instrument , which is extremely safe and secure.
With his sharp acumen and market insight, Mr. Goenka has directed Essel Group’s recently foray into servicing urban infrastructure. Titled as ‘Essel Utilities’, this venture has been set up to undertake distribution projects for Power, Water and Natural Gas. With his strategic approach, Mr. Goenka has led Essel Utilities to secure the Power Distribution Franchisee rights for key cities in India.
